--Audre Lorde
The Shirley Chisholm Day celebration was great!*
What I discovered was that there is an official holiday in the state of New York dedicated to Shirley Chisholm, but that it is on November 30th each year, Chisholm's birthday. So there is still more celebrating to come this year!
The speakers were great and inspiring. I learned that Chisholm created the SEEK program, a bit about a few projects (the White House Project for one, and the new Shirley Chisholm Project of Brooklyn Women’s Activism website) and really appreciated sharing the legacy of Chisholm with my colleagues at Brooklyn College. I think I'm going to watch Chisholm '72: Unbought and Unbossed again (by Shola Lynch, whose papers are here in the BC archives along with many items about Chisholm-a BC grad!).
*and even better for me to consider after having a pretty sexist, ageist comment directed at me directly before (UGH!). Brought the whole thing home double, triple-fold.

*Or maybe that should be Animals being (Moby) Dicks?... Now somebody's gotta make a GIF...
"To produce a mighty book, you must choose a mighty theme. No great and enduring volume can ever be written on the flea, through many there be who have tried it."*
(you couldn't tell our tale on a flea either--working on chapter XVIII)
Official reaching-the-limits day. Read things, can't remember what.
